The groundbreaking event towards the construction of Benjamin Romualdez International Convention Center (BRICC) was held on 7 February at Tacloban City, Leyte, Philippines.
BRICC is a three-storey building with a seating capacity of 5,000 guests and will be built within the 20,620 square meter lot at the old Leyte Park Hotel Complex along Magsaysay Boulevard, Tacloban City.
Amenities of the international convention center will include retail concourse, food and beverage services areas, lounges, large parking space, and other utilities.
The second and third floors are designed to be used as a multi-purpose venue that can accommodate large number of seating capacities, with the provision of mezzanine, plenary areas, rooms, lounges, retail among other facilities.
BRICC once built, is envisioned to host national and international events thus becoming one of the major MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) destinations in the Philippines.
The Philippine’s Department of Public Works and Highways through its regional office at Eastern Visayas will implement the construction of BRICC. According to DPWH Eastern Visayas Regional Director Edgar Tabacon, the first phase of the BRICC project has a P500 million pesos allocation while its second phase has a funding of 250 Million pesos.
The groundbreaking event was attended by House Speaker Martin Romualdez, Congressman Jude Avorque Acidre, DPWH Executive Regional Director Edgar Tabacon, among other local government officials and staff of the DPWH.
Benjamin Romualdez is the father of the House Speaker who served as governor of Leyte from 1967 to 1986, and Philippine Ambassador to the US from 1982 to 1986.
